Concept — The Context Layer (LA Profile → IS Brief)
The single biggest role expansion in v3. It turns generic prep into responsive prep by giving the Instructional Strategist structured, reusable context about the school and cohort before the engagement. It is a chain of three artifacts with one handoff.

Artifact 1 — School Context Profile (LA, [A1–A5])
One profile per school, reusable across engagements, completed in under 5 minutes.
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Readiness rating | 1–5 (Resistant/fatigued → Highly engaged) |
| Change-pressure tags | new curriculum · leadership transition · staffing shortages · accountability pressure · new instructional initiative · other |
| Top-3 priority focus areas | from fixed list: literacy · math · discourse · differentiation · behavior · MTSS · teacher clarity · other |
| Narrative note | optional, ≤500 chars |
- Last-updated timestamp shown.
- Updates apply to future engagements unless overridden at the workshop level.
- Guardrails: <5 min to complete; note warns against names/confidential personnel details; UI states “This helps tailor the experience. This is not evaluative.” [D1/D2]
Artifact 2 — Cohort Snapshot (LA, [B1–B2])
Per-engagement, gives the IS day-of logistical confidence.
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Attendee group | dropdown: grade-level · department · leadership team · whole staff |
| Cohort note | ≤300 chars |
| Expected participant count | number |
Artifact 3 — IS Context Brief (IS, [C1])
The IS opens one brief, visible ≥3 days before the engagement, that composes:
- The LA School Context Profile (readiness, tags, priorities, note)
- The Cohort Snapshot (group, count)
- Strategist Insights [E2–E4] — % logged in, % watched intro video, pulse aggregates, notable outliers
- Cohort profile summary [F2] — built from participant Learner Profiles [F1]
The handoff is the point
The LA completing the School Context Profile in Prepare is what unlocks the IS Context Brief. Without it, IS prep falls back to generic. This is the dependency arrow in Figure 1, and it’s why the context layer is sequenced as roadmap Phase 2 (the data from Phase 1 becomes valuable once framed by context).
Why it’s also an analytics asset
Per [C2], context fields are stored as structured analytics signals, not free text. That makes cohort outcomes filterable by readiness / change load / priority — enabling the PM to answer “do schools with high accountability pressure apply faster?” See time-to-apply metrics and business loop.
